Welcome to the Space Opera Homepage.
The Space Opera program is a turn based space exploration game.
- Start with one colony ship.
- Play against 1-20 computer opponents.
- The galaxy has from 5 to 200 stars, most of them with
colonizeable planets.
- Colonize planets and improve your colonies with currently about
50 different buildings.
- Build fleets of strong and fast ships out of over 30 components.
- Research more than 50 technologies.
- Attack computer opponents.
- Difficulty levels range from kindergarden to impossible.

Help wanted:
If you have some spare time and would like to see your name on the
SpaceOpera Team
list, there's what you could do:
Animations: SpaceOpera could
use lots of small animations, either 320*240 or 640*480, about 3 to 10
seconds long. Asteroid field fly-throughs, Space-Station fly-by's,
Surface approaches, explosions, Supernovas, Wormholes. You create it,
I'll find a place to put it in the game!
Images: There are about 140 planetary surfaces made with
Terragen and about 60 orbit views made with POVRAY. Of course I can use
more, and I'd like to replace
some of the older images with more spectacular ones. I still miss some
orbit views where you can see the sun in the background.
Music: SpaceOpera allows the player to play music from a directory
or from a list. Of course I'd like to distribute a SpaceOpera theme song
with the game. But I'm no composer myself and I won't find the time to
learn this in the next few years. The music that accompanies SpaceOpera
could be anything from
Wagner's Ritt
der Walküren to
Mike
Oldfield,
Pink Floyd or
more modern
Techno and
House music.
If you think you want to contribute something, send an e-mail to
the
Space Opera project
administrator.
Planned features:
Note: The game is far from finished. It is playable, but not winnable
yet. Do not expect it to be finished soon.
For a listing of the planned features go see the
Space Opera tracker list . You're welcome to add new items or comment
on existing ones.
